This is the 3rd 'Tone Poet' album, hence Tone Poet Vol. 3. Tone Poet Vol.I was a mixture of past recordings by Derwood that never found a home in any project, and a few new songs with ample guitar sorties into a blues direction. Tone Poet Vol.II was the start of wandering into the world of acoustic lap steel guitar. "A bad workman always blames his tools" so maybe a good workman praises his implement? Derwood says " Giving an old punk a guitar that has to lay on your lap and sounded like molten gold, was the greatest personal musical event and gift for a long time. It forced me to think straight again, and gave me the confindence to sing as a back up to the skitar". Tone Poet Vol.3 comes on the heels of Derwood's first solo tour of the UK and Ireland in the summer of 2015. Returning to his home in the Californian desert he wrote and recorded ten songs at his infamous RubberCheese Studios. The result being Tone Poet Vol.3, simple, original in execution and a bench mark for the acoustic lap steel guitar, yet using elements of his work in Generation X, Empire, Westworld, Moondogg and Speedtwinn. On the track 'California Water' Derwood's old motorcycle mate Pat Ormsby plays a great harmonica throughout the song and on "All in the Name" his desert buddie Sean Wheeler (Throw Rag/Sean & Zander) sings lead vocal. Apart from that everything is played, written, sung and recorded like the rest of the Tone Poet series, by Derwood. After 40 years of creating music from Punk to Electronica to Country Blues, Derwood hits the nail on the head once again...
