Florian Gray is more than just your typical globetrotting rap artist from Transylvania. He’s also quite possibly the most well-traveled songwriter to ever come out of Eastern Europe. After fleeing post-communist Romania for Canada in the early 90’s, Gray found a lifeline in hip-hop, quickly emerging in the Windsor hip-hop community as a lyricist with gifted promise. He spent the majority of his early-to-mid twenties drifting through Asia, Europe and Australia, honing his craft and allowing the spirit of the landscape to inspire and move him. His songwriting style became an infusion of the cultures and traditions of the places he visited during his travels. “The Picture of Florian Gray” is Gray’s debut album—an emotion driven project comprised of fogged, atmospheric production with prominent percussion and rumbling bass-lines, garnished with gut-punching lyrics dealing with love and lust, adventure, drugs, and the superficial nature of society. Having recently completed a move to Toronto, Florian hopes to channel his signature lyricism and trunk-blasting beats towards a wider market. His debut album will be available on Spotify, iTunes, etc, in March of 2017. In the meantime, he will continue to bring smiles to the faces of soul-searchers and hiphopologists across the Western Hemisphere and the East — all the way to his birthplace of Transylvania.
