Frith went into the studio to document some songs he'd written before they were lost to time. He called them his "porch songs", because they were the quiet ones he sang to himself on the porch swing when no one else was around. Each song was performed in a single take, warts and all. The performances you hear are straight-out recordings of a guy sitting on a stool in front of a microphone in a dimly lit soundbooth. The engineer was that lovely soul, Dwight Goodwin of Studio B in Bermuda. When the recording session was finished, Goodwin said to Frith, "You know, I know some people who'd really like this stuff...you should release it as a record." And so it became Frith's second album.
