This song is a brief retelling of the story of the 1977 Pet Rock Revolt in Grand Marais, Michigan. The village is located in a harbor of refuge in Lake Superior. Sand was filling the harbor from breaches in the breakwater wall but the only government response was to fund studies on how to fix the problem. After 30 years, the townsfolk had enough and staged a protest. A Pet Rock funeral with burial at the breakwater wall. It was a fun story begging for a song.
