简介

Ron Eschete专辑介绍:by Ken DrydenRon Eschete is probably best known for his long tenure as the guitarist in the Gene Harris Quartet, but this 1980 studio session predates that association, although bassist Luther Hughes, who is also present, would later work alongside him for Harris; the trio is rounded out by drummer John Perett. The focus is on Eschete's original works, which are enjoyable for the most part but hardly memorable. The upbeat "Tete's Tune" proves to be catchy, while "Monsignor Stomp," with Hughes on electric bass, is a rather badly dated and overly long piece that alternates between rock and funk. Better is the brisk bossa nova treatment of John Coltrane's "Grand Central," featuring the leader on overdubbed acoustic and electric guitars, and Lennie Tristano's devilishly twisting "Line Up" (a wild reworking of the chord changes to "All of Me"). Since Muse disappeared from sight with the sale of its catalog to 32 Jazz, there's a possibility that this long unavailable LP might be reissued, but it seems unlikely.
