Filtered stabs further set the mood before velvety pads, a warm organ riff, resonant strings and bittersweet vocal take the track in another direction. Built around a hypnotic rhodes riff, Listen Up is inspired by classic US garage and deep French house alike, while still maintaining a strong identity all its own. A(nother) rolling subby baseline, kettles, cowbells and crisp snares lock in the groove before a rising and falling synth pattern whisks you off to the centre of the dancefloor. Do you hear me? Night Chills Deep and dark like the Kermadec Trench (look it up), Night Chills is a nod to the kind of small, basement clubs where true house heads hang. Sleek, squelchy stabs are carried along by waves of white noise and ripples of mutating pads. Judicious use of delays and reverbs bring a sense of space to the multiple builds. Yet despite the metallic sheen, therazor-sharp bongos and skippy hats mean the swing and soul are always in play. Analogue Rain A little bit woozy, Analog Rain is the sound of a late night and an early morning rolled into one. African-style drums and the sizzle of a tambourine set the scene for an ascending Detroit-esque chord sequence and gated, shimmering pad. Off-beat hats and snares suggest a Nu-Yorican vibe before the sound of thunder sets up a second half led towards an epic conclusion by a liquid lead and orchestral hits that once more juxtapose techno and afro. Crying In The Dark (Muirhead Club Dub) Lean and mean, Anthony Muirhead's take on Crying in Dark offers a stripped-back revision for cellar-dwelling house heads. Rattling drums and a hypnotic two-note baseline reel you in before snatches of synth and washes of organ drift in and out of the mix across judiciously-timed drops bookended by sprinkles of sparkling hats.
