简介
This is an album of music inspired by the feeling of watching a powerful film, or of becoming absorbed in a great video game. Composer Jason Cullimore knows these feelings well, and lets them guide his creativity when he composes music for film, television, theatre and the symphony concert hall. In this album of original compositions, Jason has tried to capture many of the emotions we all feel at the most poignant parts of a film or video game, and has collected them into two suites, "Cinematic Symphony" and "Gamescores". "Cinematic Symphony" is a compilation of cinematic orchestral music inspired by the energy of modern and classic films. On the more upbeat side, there is a chase sequence where a sparrow escapes a hungry hawk ("The Sparrow and the Hawk"), and a breakneck race down a mountain in toboggans ("The Great Sled Race"). On the softer side, there is a depiction of 1940's New York in winter ("New York Nocturne"), and a meditation on dying ("At the End, You Dream"). There are also a piece reflecting lazy summer days ("As Summer Passes By"), a piece inspired by films set in the city of light ("Lost In Paris"), a portrayal of an alien world ("Aurora") and a tribute to the passing of a space exploring legend, whose adventures inspired many science fiction filmmakers ("For Neil Armstrong"). "Gamescores" is inspired by archetypical settings and themes in video games, including pirates, dragons, war and peace. Each track represents a memorable moment or character in a video game, from the early 8-bit arcade games (represented by "Cloudjumping") to modern epic RPG's ("Moonlit Mountain Path"). Jason hopes that avid gamers will be able to recognize the games that inspired each piece in "Gamescores", even though this music is original and reflects only the spirit of the games rather than their content. About Jason Cullimore Jason is a composer of cinematic orchestral music and film score. He also writes instrumental jazz, electronica and world music. In his childhood in Regina, he studied piano and organ performance and recorded his first musical compositions on his Commodore 64. At university, his music developed rapidly under the mentorship of Queen’s music school composition professor Norman Sherman, who introduced him to contemporary art music by the likes of Bartok, Stockhausen and Messiaen. After completing graduate school with a master's thesis on the cognitive representation of musical harmony, he returned to Western Canada determined to pursue a career in soundtrack and concert music. Since then, Jason has worked in many genres, composing orchestral music for the Regina and Victoria Symphony Orchestras, writing music for major theatrical events such as the Artist Program of the 2005 Canada Summer Games, producing scores for film and television series (one of which was nominated for a Gemini for its soundtrack), and writing award-winning instrumental jazz and electronica. In his spare time, Jason also sketches (on paper and on computer), listens to a wide variety of music, and, of course, watches movies and plays video games.
