"Along the King's Road" relates the story of a prince who, dissatisfied with an empty life of ease and luxury, renounces his birthright and begins to travel the beautiful but dangerous King's Road. Each movement of this cinematic-styled orchestral suite portrays a scene from the prince's travels, all of which are inspired by popular character types, settings and themes found in the fantasy literature and role-playing video games that have inspired the suite's composer, Jason Cullimore, since his youth. Along the prince's journey there are enchanting landscapes, a chorus of colourful tavern-goers, magical shrines, and a desolate graveyard. At the end of the journey, the prince is transformed, and the suite ends with music suggesting the prince's homecoming as the king of the road itself. Jason Cullimore composes colourful, evocative music for film, concert performance, and recording projects. His compositions have won numerous awards, including a Western Canadian Music Award for Classical Recording of the Year (for the 2013 album "Cinematic Symphony and Gamescores"); his music has been performed by several Western Canadian symphony orchestras, and he has been recognized as a composer whose music is melodically and harmonically appealing, while still sounding fresh and contemporary. Jason is based in Regina, Saskatchewan, a small city with a vibrant arts scene deep in the Canadian Prairies. In addition to his composing activities, Jason is currently a Ph.D. student studying computer music, and he aspires to create ground-breaking software systems that will grant composers the ability to compose music that interacts with its audiences, responding to their behaviour and emotions to create new, dynamic musical forms.
