‘Journey of a Soul’ is a collection of instrumental compositions written to explore and enjoy music’s mysterious capability for non-verbal communication. As a musician and composer, I have always been fascinated and driven by music's ability and function, to communicate a person's emotional presence and state of mind, time and place, on micro and macro levels. The obvious occurred to me that in our lifetime we experience many common emotions, challenges and growth experiences as individuals, which basically have broad emotionally identifiable characteristics which could be shared, in music, and that is what I have attempted to explore on this album. It is important to realize that in terms of creative process, the music came first with 'Journey of a Soul' and then after more than a decade of deep listening, contemplation and meditation, final track titles and the overall concept was identified and formulated as a result of many many listens. It eventually became obvious to me as I brought this project to it's fruition, that the content of this album would also transition very well to stage interpretation, script, or contemporary dance, both as an entire work or in part. Some listeners might also be interested to know that the original sketch title for this collection of pieces was in fact called 'Moods and Messages', and I am pleased that as a central concept, that this has remained the important force and fact behind the pleasure and the creation of 'Journey of a Soul'.
