简介
Chicago singer/songwriter Jenny Bienemann was immersed in performing at an early age. Growing up in a big Irish family active in community theatre, Bienemann was exposed to diverse musical styles. While attending college at University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, she began performing at folk clubs. Moving to Chicago, Bienemann continued playing by herself and composing her own highly personal material, drawing inspiration from artists like those played on the Midnight Special radio program, as well as artists like Michael Hedges and Leo Kottke. By then a sought-after solo performer and harmony singer sharing the stage with Andrew Calhoun, Kat Eggleston, Gina Forsythe, Sons of the Never Wrong, Sloan Wainwright, and Hans York among many, she released her debut CD, LATE NIGHT ELABORATIONS in 2004. Strong word-of-mouth and favorable press led to the album being listed as one of 2004’s best by WXRT’s Richard Milne. Her next album, GIRL FRIDAY, was recorded live at the Ogilvie Transportation Center in 2011. Breaking new ground in performing songs built upon layers of vocals, enabling her songs to nestle within a choir of harmony voices, her performances gained a reputation as one-of-a-kind, can't miss experiences. GIRL FRIDAY branded her as an unabashed innovator. 2012’s HEADING SLOWLY TOWARDS THE BEGINNING was partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a State agency. With its shimmering production and orchestral arrangements featuring lush vocals and strings against a backdrop of guitar, bass, drums, plus the occasional xylophone and banjo, and with contributions from many of Chicago's finest musicians including John Abbey, Robin Bienemann, Steve Dawson, Sue Demel, Deb Lader, Kevin O'Donnell, Alton Smith, and Quartet Parapluie, the CD is a celebration of Bienemann's ongoing journey as a singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer.
