简介

Singer-songwriter Jenny Bienemann, based in the Chicago area, releases her new album, “Every Soul Grows to the Light.” An acclaimed singer, songwriter, and guitarist, she’s taught songwriting at schools, community centers, and retreats, produced three solo CDs, and a live CD with her husband Robin Bienemann. A number of her songs have been featured in TV, radio, and theatre. Her music has been described by Andrew Calhoun as falling “somewhere between winking innocence and worldly detachment,” garnering comparisons to Suzanne Vega, Joni Mitchell, and Michael Hedges. She has been on the bill with Greg Brown, Michael Smith, and Sons of the Never Wrong, among many. Her three albums receive airplay on outlets as varied as MSNBC, National Public Radio, The Midnight Special, and the Howard Stern Show. With Jenny’s 2017 CD, “Every Soul Grows to the Light,” she returns home to her first love, finger style guitar, with 12 brand new songs that include meditations on love, loss, and things that didn’t go as planned. Songs include “You Are Where I’m From,” “Out on a Limb,” and “Quicksand.” The song “Pay the Piper,” is an imagined meeting between the Piper and the Devil, and features singer/songwriter Michael Peter Smith (author of the song The Dutchman) and the Sons of the Never Wrong. Artist Sue Demel, known as a visual artist and also for her work in the band Sons of the Never Wrong, has created an extraordinary allegorical painting that is the centerpiece of the CD's design. Two songs on the album, “Wake Up” and “The Monster,” were co-written by Geri X and Carley Baer, respectively, at The Holiday Music Motel during Steel Bridge Songfest in Sturgeon Bay, WI, a songwriting, recording and performing festival helmed by Grammy-nominated musician and songwriter, pAt mAcdonald. The song “Figuratively” was written while she was on the staff for Lamb’s Retreat for Songwriters, helmed by John D. Lamb, in Bliss Harbor, MI. Her 2012 solo CD, “Heading Slowly Towards the Beginning,” featured shimmering arrangements of vocals and strings, and was heralded as “simply striking in its fluidity and charm” by WXRT’s Richard Milne, earning a spot on a number of DJ’s top-of-2012 lists. In 2011, she released GIRL FRIDAY, featuring only a looper, her voice and a kalimba, recorded live at the Ogilvie Transportation Center, leading the Illinois Entertainer to enthuse, “There’s no denying Jenny Bieneman’s talents...” Her 2004 debut CD, LATE NIGHT ELABORATIONS, received strong word-of-mouth and favorable press, and recognition as one of the year’s best by WXRT’s Richard Milne. She is a member of the bands The Zimmerman, The Significant Others, and The Rainy Day Women. Many of her fellow band members from these projects are featured on “Every Soul Grows to the Light.” These include Andon Davis on guitar, Klem Hayes on bass, Heather Lynne Horton on violin, Robin Bienemann on guitar, Isaac Lyons on accordion, and Jodi Walker, Ron Lazzeretti, and Naomi Ashley on vocals.
