简介

Ron of Rootstime Belguim says "Steven Charles Cecil's Vocals are a cross between Bob Dylan and Ron Wood.... Parker Townsend's vocals on track 5 'Dark Day's' take this CD to another level... Little Ray delivers a strong guitar performance on damage done....and TT Tucker's Lyrics and vocals on 'Barely Alive in Baltimore' are Zappa-Esque" Steven Charles Cecil is a keyboardist in the Blues tradition. As a road musician He's played behind artist such as Bobby Parker (Black Top Records), Sherman Robertson (Code Blue division of Atlantic Records), and the late Little Jimmy King (Rounder Records). Currently Steven splits his time working with Houston based artist Albert Storo and the Soul Hustlers and Baltimore Based artitst TT Tucker and the Bum Rush Band. Sometimes Steven can be seen performing with New York based artist Lex Grey and the Urban Pioneers. Most of the recordings on this release "The Be-bop sessions" come from the 1995 Bob Dewault Be-Bop Studio Session, which occured at the now defunked Be-Bop Studios in Rockville, MD. The remainder of the recordings on the CD come from the 2000 Smiling Pig Texas Sessions(one in Austin,TX and one in Vider, TX) which featured Steven Charles Cecil, Little Ray and Parker Townsend; and the Baltimore Smiling Pig Sessions between 2004 and 2007 which featured Steven Charles Cecil, Walter Crosby, Peter Beck, and TT Tucker. Note worthy items of this release "The Be-bop Sessions" follow: The late great Jeff Sali (known for his work with John Mooney and the Rolling Stones) appears on upright bass for the tunes "Mama Mama", "Barely Alive in Baltimore", and "Dark Days" and on electric bass on "Keep on Moving" and "Dynamite on Stilts"; Parker Townsend from Austin, Tx, in addition to his fine drumming, also appears on vocals for the tunes "Dark Days" and "Keep on Movin"; TT Tucker, known on the Baltimore Music Scene for his band "TT Tucker and the Bum Rush Band" and in the literary world for his work with Apathy Press, delivers emotional vocal performances on "Sold U Out" and "Barely Alive in Baltimore"--a tune whose lyrics were penned by TT Tucker; Finally Little Ray, a vastly under-rated guitar slinger from Beaumount, TX, contributes some killer guitar performances for the tunes "Sold U Out", "Damage Done", and "Dark Days- the Texas Mix". The CD was mastered in 2008 by Jim Fox at the Lion and Fox studios in College Park, MD. Jim Fox also contributes his mixing skills to this project for the tunes "Midnight Hook up" and the two versions of "Dark Days". An added bonus to this handcrafted DigiPak release is the fine artwork by Baltimore Based Cartoon Artist Johnathan Eaton which is featured on the inside cover and the print-on disc. This CD was manufactured with loving care by the folks at Discmakers and is distributed thru CD Baby.
