简介
This is a beautiful album of original music, written, performed, and recorded completely by Ben Travis in honor of his father, who passed away in April of 2002. The melodies are strong and memorable, and this album offers a sense of healing, particularly for anyone who has lost someone close to them. "This album was written during a difficult time in my life, and the songs are very special to me. I wrote this album while I was watching my dad die of lung cancer in the spring of 2002. I remember going with him to a hospital in Nashville and hearing the diagnosis—terminal… possibly just a few weeks to live. As we drove back home, I remember trying to imagine what he must be feeling or thinking… these ideas eventually became the song “All the Way Home,” the title track for this album. My dad, Gerald Travis, is probably one of the biggest reasons I became a musician. I grew up hearing him play the piano, and I still remember him teaching me to play “Desperado” when I was about 13 years old. It is fitting, then, that an album of original music would be my tribute to him. Partly because I wanted this to be an album from me to him, I did everything on the album… I played all instruments and sang all vocals, I wrote all the songs (except “John Barleycorn,” which my dad wrote), and I did all engineering, mixing, and mastering. So everything on here—whether for better or worse—is my own doing. I recorded all this in my own studio—Miles Per Second Studios—and the complete project has taken about 3 years to finish. This is largely because it took me a long time to feel like getting started on it. My hope in sharing this album with others is that it can be a window into the soul of someone going through an incredibly difficult time. I also hope this can offer some sense of healing to those who have gone through something similar. For me, being able to connect with what I was feeling in that time is important, and I think it will be for others as well."
