简介
I grew up attending a little church out in the country called Caldwell Springs Baptist every Sunday morning. It was my grandparents’ church, and I have a lot of great memories there… I can still hear Granny singing in the choir, and I can see Grandad sitting quietly on his pew, delighted as he listened to my dad play the old hymns in his Southern Gospel style. That music was ingrained in me, and it still provides some of the foundation of my life, even when I’m not consciously aware of it. The smells, the sounds, the sense of community… all these are things I carry with me, and are things that I know are part of what make me who I am. On my last hymns album, "Favorite Hymns," I played many of the hymns in my dad’s style. On this album, I sing and play my own arrangements of some of these hymns which I developed over the years as I began to find my own style. I would like to thank the wonderful people at Caldwell Springs Baptist for being such an important part of my life for so many years. I’d like to thank my mom and dad for taking me there almost every Sunday to be a part of something special. I’d also like to thank Granny and Grandad, Marie & Byron Travis, who were always there for me and who helped teach me how important it is to build a foundation for your life with people who care about you, and to share things like this beautiful music together. This album is dedicated to the memory of my grandmother, Marie Travis (“Granny”), who passed away on December 13, 2011. She always enjoyed hearing me play and sing these songs, and she always sneaked me candy during the church service and had an amazing meal waiting for us afterward. We miss you, Granny.
