简介

ALAN G. returns with the next chapter in the Billy saga: INFIDEL. This pop-rock world explodes as we follow the new adventures of our young gay hero, Billy. Beginning in the period after the albums EXILE and EXILE EXTENDED, INFIDEL now explores the emergence of a boy who has found his voice – and who is not afraid to use it – even if it means going against the establishment or the status quo. “Billy is growing up,” explains Alan. “He is no longer on the streets – but he continues to see the craziness and hurt in the world. And now he has a voice to speak out against what he sees as wrong… But that thrusts Billy into a new chapter that is volatile and vulnerable – one that is always on fire, always dangerous. These new songs reflect the upheaval he sees in life– with the pop-rock music setting the stage for a world that is completely out of control.” “But now we get to see how Billy feels about all of this,” continues Alan. “As well as what he plans to do about it. Billy is angry. He is so disappointed by what he sees, and what has happened – and how people are being treated. He must speak out, he must act - even in the face of resistance from perspectives that are old and worn-out – but which are still very powerful.” INFIDEL begins with “Freakshow” – a response to those who would arm their bigotry with name-calling and hatred. “As we saw in Exile,” explains Alan “Billy is a member of the LGBT community. He has faced the discrimination himself, he has heard the things people call him, and he is even run away from home to escape these hurtful attitudes. Billy claims the word for himself, calling out the haters to face the mirror and realize the true nature of diversity.” As the album continues, we see Billy take aim at other issues he sees in the world. The seductive track “Secret” explores his frustration at finding others in the closet, “For Sale” sees him taking a stand against a society that values prostituting its members (in various ways), and the pensive“ Bonds of Starvation” finds Billy confronting the pressures and dangers of romance and relationships. But Billy saves some of his most powerful words - and actions - for other issues. As we saw in “Exile”, Billy faced institutionalized discrimination – and in “Preacher Preacher”, he now wields some of his most powerful weapons – including revenge – when he confronts the hypocrisy of religion once again. And in one of the album’s few down-tempo songs, “The Angel” shows that Billy is still grappling with those issues of spirituality – what it is, and what it isn’t. And some of Billy’s darkest moments are brought to light in “Rage” and “Thunder”. The fiery “Rage” accuses a culture that promotes violence and raises Billy’s generation to foster anger and pain – until retribution is the only option they feel remains. And one of the results of that is revealed in “Thunder” – as we find Billy has been the victim of a violent attack. “’Thunder’ was a very difficult song to both write and sing,” admits Alan. “While all of Billy’s stories stem from the experience of a community, ‘Thunder’ was written directly after an attack on someone very dear to me… I still remember the pictures that were posted from the hospital - They were some of the most horrifying I had ever seen. And it was heartbreaking to see that someone I love was beaten by a group of people – because he is gay. It made me so angry, so sad – and this song was written in the hopes of bringing some of those feelings out into the open.” Furthermore, Billy is still young – and INFIDEL also continues to reflect that youth. The reflective “Whatta Mistake” finds Billy confronting his own guilt for not being true to himself – while the bombastic “Blow It” shows his attempt to deal with that issue by advocating for the freedom to making mistakes. And the crazy story behind “Upside Down” finds Billy still exploring his sexuality as a wide-eyed young person will do. And INFIDEL ends with “Don’t Close Your Eyes” – re-establishing Billy’s fundamental perspective as an optimist. “Even in the midst of the darkness, Billy still believes,” explains Alan. “He is still a bit of an optimist, and he still believes there is good in the world. But now he knows that that good must be fought for. It must be won in the battle for the truth. And throughout history, it has often been the infidels who have won the victories in the face of the status quo and those who would seek to control others.” “This album is quite the radical departure for me – not just in the style of music – but it can be rather provocative in terms of its lyrics and themes,” assures Alan. “But this is where Billy’s story finds its ultimate challenges. And we know that all of the other ‘Billys’ are out there – fighting these battles, facing these horrible circumstances, and running to the frontlines to do what is right. This album seeks to honor them, their humanity, and their courage in speaking out and rising up. And we look forward to seeing what they can – and will – do…” Billy’s saga continues… INFIDEL from Alan G. arrives September 30.
