Roger D’Lux – Sumtin’ Sumtin’ EP A true mirror on the state of affairs in Pretoria right in the middle of the ‘nineties’, the Sumtin’ EP is a treat for any and all those who have been in the scene for long enough to know. Side A is a track as naughty and sneaky as it names suggests. ‘Purple Cola’ is a true club cut, a track that any DJ could pull out of the bag to up the ante of his or hers set, as long as the dance floor was ablaze. It marks Roger’s first outside collaboration with Johannesburg based DJ and producer Scotty, who held down many a long afternoon at the now mythical E.S.P Sunday sessions. Roger’s mania for funky and Scotty’s penchant for perfection in production shine through in this tale of a tune. You could have played it then, you could play it now, it would still leave a wake of dance floor destruction in its path. Side B’s ‘You’ve Got’ is as plain as you could ever hear the producer from Pretoria. A raw, 90’s inspired club banger, a man who has been there and done that, and come back again, could only have made this. A self-proclaimed ‘labour of love’, many a DJ has found himself thankful that this eventually got pushed out. Play it late.
