Roger D’Lux – Re-Invent EP The first solo effort in the catalogue from co-owner Roger D’Lux, this EP serves as a perfect introduction to the house master from up north in Pretoria, where house has enjoyed a certain autonomy from the rest of the political south. Side A brings the aptly named ‘Cool Funk’, an infectious tech and funk cut that would be as at home during the mania of a middle set in a warehouse as it would be in the most intimate of house clubs. A floor filler of note, this 2007 edit could also be regarded as ahead of its time, and would fit the record box of any house DJ today, as much as it did then. In Side B’s ‘Desire’ lies a filth usually reserved for those ears that have seen the long night through and are pushing on the back door of dawn. Masterfully produced, Desire is aptly named, the kind of tune that makes six minutes thirty seconds seem like the blink of an eye. With due respect being paid to the West Coast sound of 2009, the Re-Invent EP can be played to any heaving dance floor, side A or side B. take your pick.
