Why did you decide to create this record The Ten? A) I did this album because I had forgotten the Ten Commandments. As you know, each song on the album is about one of the Ten Commandments. So there are 10 songs, and a bonus track reciting all of them. I grew up in church, and my dad was a chaplain, so you would think that I would learn all them by osmosis, but that’s not how it works. In fact, I didn’t learn them all in perfect order until I start making this album. B) This album help us appreciate our salvation, The Ten Commandments bring awareness to our sin, and helps us understand that we are sinners in need of a savior. If I have the cure for cancer, but you don’t know that you have cancer (or you don’t know what cancer is), then you really don’t care about the solution. But if you become aware of the disease then you can really appreciate the cure. C) The Ten Commandments are so important! I mean these are the very words God spoke in an audible voice on Mount Sinai, and wrote in stone! Shouldn’t they be written on our hearts? Moses passed us the 10 commandments in Deuteronomy 5, and Jesus reiterated those commandments in Matthew 5 -see the parallel? He goes on to tell us if we want to be great and famous in heaven’s eyes (aka a supernatural star) then we need to “practice and teach” (v19) these commands. Where did you come up with the idea to create this album? I’m always trying to find ways to get closer to truth, because the truth brings freedom, life and beauty. Culture is a powerful force, and music is a crucial element of culture. When culture is corrupt with lies then it’s hard to do anything good, and society suffers. So I’m always trying to express my faith in Christ through music and bring something positive to people. But Moses also gave me this idea by saying: 18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the door-frames of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth – Deuteronomy 11:18-21 Scottish writer, politicians, and patriot Andrew Fletcher said “Let me write the songs of a nation – I don't care who writes its laws.” So I’m like “hey, what better way to ingrain these precepts and make a positive change in culture, than placing them in songs, and making a whole project about it?” and so… the project began!
