DONKEYSHOT – Barbie Land & Candy Street When Camilla Jonasson, from the band DONKEYSHOT, was in middle school she made a bass, in carpentry class, to be able to perform as the bass player Jackie Fox from the Runaways. It was back then that she decided she wanted to start a band and when she was at the senior level in school she took the seat behind the drums in her first band. During her high school years (upper secondary school) she formed the band Modesty Blaise together with three of her friends. That was the starting point, and from that time Camilla has been seen behind the drums in bands like; Three Blind Mice among others. She is, since 2003, the songwriter and the lead singer in the group DONKEYSHOT. They released their debut album in 2005 on their own record label Bensin Records. Since DONKEYSHOT released their second album; En Route from Reality, in 2008 Camilla has worked hard in her profession as a music teacher as well as through Popkollo in Malmö (a children’s holiday camp) to inspire young girls to form bands. She has also joined forces with other devotees to run open stage clubs for unsigned artists and singer-songwriters. Yes, she has even tried to make a town square come alive! However, she reached a point where her longing to do her own thing and to be in the limelight herself could not be kept back. DONKEYSHOT set a date for their release of their new album booked the Victoria theatre (in Malmö) and began to record new songs. The producer Anders Nordgren, also the guitarist in the band, rummage about among his old records looking for a new sound and Camilla allowed herself to get inspired by her childhood’s pop icons but also by the sweet smelling every day surroundings of the studio, in an industrial estate. The result is the ten-track album “Barbie Land & Candy Street” which is released on February 17, 2011. The debut album, A Real Life Travel Rep, was well received by press and public alike. It was for example named one of the best records of 2005 in the morning paper Sydsvenska Dagbladet. The single Rubber Boots included on the second album En Route From Reality reached nr. 25 on the national radio P3 single chart when it was released.
