简介
Chris Rael made Kashi after returning from a year of Indian music study in Varanasi. Venturing around the country, he made field recordings everywhere, integrating them with classical, folk, and Indian pop themes. The songs on Kashi are not for the faint of heart; they are envelope pushers: complex times, contrapuntal, sometimes quite dissonant. The album became notorious in the New york experimental music scene, which was burgeoning in the early '90s. Guests include Jan Kotik of the Mommyheads, Tim Thomas of Babe the Blue Ox, and experimental composer Elliott Sharp. "A culturally rich explosion, a vast garden of brilliant colors and exotic species." - Good Times Musicians: Chris Rael, Jan Kotik, Ed Pastorini, Cindy Rickmond, Elliott Sharp, Tim Thomas, Tom Tedesco, Brian Woodbury, Elizabeth Shaler, Gregor Kitzis, Matt Darriau, Dan Fisherman, Kevin Miller, Melanie Miller, Courtney Shriver.
