简介
On this album, you will find songs inspired by nature, friends, ministers, and real life. Like most of our songs, one of my favorites, Play Your Music, has a story behind it. Joe Corral, is the person who inspired me to write music back when we teens. Even as a teen, he had the courage to share his gifts. He wrote songs that made us laugh, and made us cry, and I remember listening, and thinking, "Man, I want to do THAT!!!" I was honored when I got to sing harmony on some of his songs. But then as life happens, things started to change. His best friend and singing buddy moved to Iowa. High School ended and Joe and I drifted apart, until we ran into each other 25 years later. We caught up on life, and then I ask, "So what are you doing with your music? Where you playing?" He says, "Barb, I haven't played in about 10 years. "You're kidding right?" I asked as I grabbed his hands to look for calluses. "No Barb, seriously, I don't play anymore". We swapped phone numbers and a promise to keep in touch - but that conversation haunted me all week. I grieved for who he was for me. I mean, I bought my first guitar because of him! So that week, a song started to "swirl", and I started to resolve my feelings. And i realized, there was no need to grieve - He'll ALWAYS be the man who inspired me to write music. So I wrote this song, and I sent the recording to Joe in an email, explaining that I just had to let him know how I felt, thank him and to let him how much I loved him for all he'd given me. I told him that every song I've ever written, is because he inspired me to be that. I didn't hear from him for a couple days, then my phone rings, its Joe. "I don't know what to say, Barb. No one's ever written a song for me, I'm just floored. Thank you". I was suddenly compelled to ask, "Would you please take this song, and make it OUR song? Capture your side of things?" There was a long pause, then he said "Yeah Barb - I'll do it." "Thank you, Joe! And by the way, would you be willing to sing and play it in concert with us in three weeks?" There was a much longer pause, and then he said, "Yeah, Barb, I'll do it. Sounds like fun". And so he did, and he got a standing ovation at the concert, accompanied by many tears of joy. Later, Joe joined us in the studio to record the song as well, and is once again, immersed in his music. And so I dedicate this CD to Joe Corral. Thank you, my friend. We are thrilled that this album has been released in conjunction with Summit Spirit Recordings!
