简介
Inspired by the erotic writings of Anaïs Nin, these instrumental musical works reflect her joyous, mysterious, and sensuous moods, although the titles of individual sections were written by the composer. When first released in 1990, this album received critical acclaim from Option Magazine and Keyboard Magazine. The first said: "His style is easy on the ears, demonstrating that tonality, electronics, and experimentation need not be mutually exclusive -- brilliant writing." The second said: "a charming CD...delicately colored, intimate textures...exotic, sensual flavor." This brand new edition has been remixed and features greatly enhanced sound! "Little Birds" is a light-hearted story about a would-be exhibitionist who decorates his apartment with tropical birds in order to attract and shock Parisian schoolgirls. However, when the moment arrives he finds that he is over-eager, and the final line of the story reads: "They all took fright, like little birds, and ran away." "The Woman on the Dunes" is a serious story about a young man who spends a sleepless summer night restlessly walking the moonlit beach, where he encounters an equally restless young woman. Their romance is capped by her recounting a strange and supercharged erotic experience of another time and place as they fall asleep on the sand. In the morning, when the young man awakens, she has gone. "Saffron" is based upon a story about young New Orleans newlyweds. The opening portrays the woman's feelings of liberation as she marries a wealthy man and is installed in his home like a princess. He pleasantly torments her by awakening new sensibilities but is unable to bring her down off her pedestal in order to consummate the marriage. One day, upon returning from an infrequent shopping trip to the market (where she held the packages close to her body), the young bride greets her husband smelling of saffron, the expensive spice. That evening, through the power of scent, their relationship is transformed. Kenneth A. Jacobs (D.M.A. University of Texas at Austin) is a composer and artist. He has been awarded The American Prize, International New Music Composers Prize, and awards from City College of New York, Brown University, Texas Music Educators Association, and the Tennessee Music Teachers Association.
